Safety Guarding in the Timber Industry

Our customer had an industrial planer which required guarding to restrict access and ensure safety. 15 gates required monitoring, and reporting was needed to show any breaches to the gates.

BJH Controls designed and installed all interlocking solenoid switches, connected to a SmartGuard 600PLC via a Devicenet. This was all monitored through a PanelView Plus 700 HMI.

It was important for the customer to save time and costs compared to the previous relay-style system. An easy transmission from the existing system to the upgraded system was achieved, and the customer was very pleased with the ease with which open gates were able to be located and reported, and the overall safety and efficiency benefits provided by the upgraded system.
